Why are we called "The Left Side"?

The mainstream metaphysical name...
I'm a Brand Manager by training, and "we" are literal about branding.  Even my Native American ancestors branded themselves so history would be documented through their names... "Dawn" meaning sight of day, and others meaning "grove of cottonwood, independent, forest water, crow mother spirit, butterfly..."  In the professional world, we think it's because we're clever marketers, but we're just applying old practices to current situations and calling it branding.  OK, sarcasm aside, when I named my wholesale company I thought about the words "heart-felt," words that flowed with the word "art,"  but I kept hearing the phrase "The Left Side."  "Come on" I said to my subconscious, "that doesn't brand me!"  But, no matter what I came up with (even went to "Right Side" because that is the creative side of the brain) that nagging phrase continued to haunt me so The Left Side it is.

Then a bigger picture was revealed to me.  The reason I started my own company is to seek balance.  Because of the creativity that The Left Side supported, people said (without knowing if it was true or not), "Oh, the creative side of the brain!"  I didn't want to insult and correct them as it was like they broke a code, made a discovery--The Left Side (actually yang/masculine) was the linear, number-crunching, logical, measurable side of the brain.  To express to "mainstreamers" that it's the physical heart-side (for "heart-felt" products), was awkward at first (coming from a conservative professional background).  But then more information was revealed to me.  Within a year of its creation, my company was completely dedicated to distributing New Age, conscious living products.  I came out of the closet!  And as I walked further down my path I found the "other half."  The complete balance.  Esoterically, the left side is the ying/feminine--the creative, soft, gentle side.  My mainstream metaphysical balance, my ying and yang.  A few years later, with a clearer understanding of what balance truly meant to me, I wrote my first book, "Adventures of a Mainstream Metaphysical Mom.

 1997, I founded, own and operate a wholesale business that has served thousands of retail stores and centers in the United States, Canada, the U.K., Europe, Australia, Mexico/Latin America over the past decade. In addition, I am a multiple award-winning author and has written four books—Adventures of a Mainstream Metaphysical Mom, Soul”utions, and Birth Mix Patterns series.  I'm a passionate conscious living communicator, have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati in Communication Arts, am a PhD and Doctorate candidate as a Hypnotherapist, a Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (tm) and Communication Skills Specialist (from The Performance Institute of NLP), the Creator and Master of Birth Mix Patterns (combining Astrology, Numerology, and Birth Order).  I touch people world-wide as a radio guest, as a writer for numerous regional and national publications, with empowering one-on-one sessions, workshops, and tele-education and tele-Book Clubs. 

Moving out of the corporate environment for balance...
 First and foremost, the reason why I started The Left Side was to have a more flexible schedule to be home more often with my children, life partner and myself (as a result, improving my quality of life).  I worked over 13 years in corporate America (in Brand Marketing Management in international packaged goods companies) and appreciate the income and the life lessons.  To fully experience the joys of life from my perspective, I found that corporate demands clouded my ability to reframe reality more positively and to achieve my ultimate goal of being with those who love and support me (as I do them), doing what I love, and being in the places I love to be.  So, I changed it!  And I created a company that supplied products with purpose that interested women, and mind, body, spirit inclined consumers, and businesses. Today the The Left Side products and services have expanded to, not only marketing it's own products but, cooperatively partnering with talented inspirational artists/authors/designers/consultants.  I've created additional companies that can be found at www.MichellePayton.com, and www.HelpingUExpand.com.  TLS products are internationally distributed, and has an incredibly efficient warehouse that manages the company inventory, co-packing, shipping and other day-to-day operations.  A decade after beginning my business, my sales and marketing office continues to be out of my home and this flexibility continues to create an awesomely, amazing and joyful life for me and my family.

The Left Side represents where my heart is personally, and professionally.  This divine guidance has put the "you" in "You"nique (soul-based branded) Products and Services from The Left Side.
